Hey Dolly, I d/l'ded Give the People What They Want. Let me know if you'd like to get a YSI of it. If you don't have it, it's worthwhile (essential, even!) for the minor Davies' classic, "Art Lover."

Bah - I suck at interviews, but thankyou anyway.
Same old story - the part where I have to be observed teaching a lesson goes really well, but then I fall apart in the formal interview. Not that it helped only finding out a day and a half before as my application got 'misdirected' before it reached the relevant people. Grrr.
Anyway, not heard yet - but pretty sure I blew it.
I love my Mac! Won't want to give it back when I do finally get a new job. I tend to use the Windows operating system on it though - haven't explored the Mac software yet. Guess I should as apparently it's easy to use and far superior. Not sure I want my toy to become the poor Mac of choice though. I might have to sabotage your communications with Mr Jobs!

Hey Ken, I did have it but it died with my hard drive Don't have 'illegal' downloading means at the moment, so I'd love a YSI'd copy! Thanks!

You should definitely check out the Mac OS, Dolly. Makes Windows look clunky by comparison, and the iLife suite that comes with your MacBook is one of the easiest to use and friendliest pieces of software you're likely to run into.
Paul, I really doubt that Apple is going to change the MacBook moniker any time soon. Jobs wanted to increase the Mac name, and so you've got the MacPro desktop, Mac Mini, MacBook and MacBook Pro. I liked the PowerBook name myself, but what Steve wants, Steve gets.
It's cool that they're looking at revisions here soon. I'm about ready to swap my Aluminum (PowerPC) PowerBook for a newer model ... probably won't be till fall/winter, though. I'd like to see a revised form factor/feature set before I make the move.

I will do if I can figure out how to toggle to the Mac system! I've totally forgotten how to do it. Wouldn't mind getting off Windows as I've contracted some really nasty adware. It's pissing me off a treat.

Yep, the PowerBook name is dead.
Dolly, so you have a Mac but run Windows? Well, that's a cool thing about a Mac, but you should definitely explore the Mac side of things - Its SO much better. Here at work, we have Dell computers, but a bunch of the techies have hacked a Mac onto their computers. I was surprised to hear that a lot of them really like Macs better. I always reckoned the tech folks liked Windows better. The head tech guy here HATES Windows Vista, and is trying to push of all Macs here; I would love that.
So, "Art Lover" is a cool song? I've never heard it. I tell you, on my Pandora internet radio station, I make a Kinks station, and I've heard some of their 80's songs - I'm not sure I like them that much. The one I really like is "Come Dancing" because Ray isn't being cheesy, it's like a throw back song to the old days of Ray's writing style.

Come Dancing is one of the cheesiest late seventies/early eighties Kinks songs! Right up there with Don't Forget to Dance (which is really maudlin).

I disagree. Come Dancing has great nostalgic lyrics, and the big band rag time horns at the end of the song is classic. It's that other 80's Kinks stuff that is cheesy - overly processed guitar, corny lyrics, and Ray singing like he's constipated. Come Dancing was a throw back to the old days, IMO. AND, Ray sings w/ that British witty sound instead of trying to sound like a washed up metal singer.

Hey Dolly,
Check out the 'Reunion' thread that Ryo started. I just posted some info about a Kinks reunion there.

Hey Dolly, Check out the 'Reunion' thread that Ryo started. I just posted some info about a Kinks reunion there. Oooooh! Dare I hope to dream? That would be the shit. I'd camp out to get tickets. I like that Ray said it would only happen though if they could still make valid music. It's always sad when bands reform just to milk cash from the old hits. Exception being the Pixies, of course. No complaints about that little reunion.

Yep, good to see Mr. Davies keeping his integrity. I for one though wouldn't mind seeing the full band reunite just for nostalgic purposes, I think it would be a fun show. I would even like if they used the Rolling Stones idea from a few tours ago and focus on different albums at different shows - i.e. focus on 'Arthur' in DC, and 'Muswell Hillbillies' in New York - something like that.
I saw the Pixies on their reunion tour, and it was fanfreakingtastic! Sure they just milked old songs, but I didn't care. In 1993, if you would've tole me I'd be seeing the Pixies in 2004 there would've been no way I'd believe that. I was just so awesome seeing a band I grew up loving play live. Oddly enough, since I've seen them live, I've barely listened to them.

Oh I'd just love to see a Muswell Hillbilies Show! Or Arthur, or VGPS come to think of it. Can't see that happening though. But I'm with you on just wanting to see them perform together. I can imagine that the brothers Davies have a fascinating on-stage dynamic.
I didn't see the Pixies reunion tour, but I did catch them at a festival at that time. It was fantastic - they all looked so happy to be there and amazed at the reception they were getting. Of course that facade was blasted when I finally got around to seeing loudQUIETloud (did I get that right way round?). It's really quite sad how they just cannot be in a room with each other without feeling utterly awquard.
I have to say Paul, I haven't listened to them much of late either.

^^^ Tell me about it! How fuckin' cool would it be to see the Kinks perform an entire album live! I'd be speechless if they ever did that. Odds are, they'd play something similar to what Ray is doing with his current solo gigs, but w/ more Dave 'death of a clown' Davies songs.
I listened to the Trompe Le Monde album recently - it's held up nicely, and better than I remember. I've always thought that was a kinda overlooked album anyway. The first 5 or 6 songs are fucking great.

It's a nice smallish venue so I'm really looking forward to it. Hope he varies his set a little from the last few times I've seen him - would love to see more from Arthur/Muswell. Trompe Le Monde always pleasantly surprises me whenever I give it a whirl - especially when I feel I know every note of Doolittle/Surfer Rosa. Which are your top tracks?
