Oops, I just hit 'post reply too soon'....Um, anyway, any love for the Buzzcocks? Honestly I didn't know much about them until recently. I had heard the name and a few of thier kinda known songs like "Orgasm Addict", but it wasn't until they opened for Pearl Jam that I bought one of their cd's and listened to a few others. I got to see them open up on July 1, 2003 in DC; it was a good show. Not many people were there (due to lots of traffic) so I was right up there, for the Buzzcocks. Anyway, I [now] think they're a pretty worthy band, and kinda overlooked.

I only have their singles collection, which I love. I'm sure they have plenty of fans here though. Mary definitely, and probably Ken too.
I'm not that much a fan of Pearl Jam, but it's kinda cool that they asked the Buzzcocks to open for them.

^^^ they normally get cool bands to open, like: Buzzcocks, Sleater Kinney, Dismemberment Plan, Mudhoney, Frank Black, Kings of Leon, My Morning Jacket, Death Cab For Cutie among others...
Anywho, yea the only CD I have of the Buzzcocks is an unmastered old school one of Singles Going Steady...Its a great listen, catchy, and energetic; I love it. Eventually I'll get the new remastered version that also has bonus tracks.
Interesting race so far....I reckoned the Jam would take this, nice to see a three way tie. The other two bands I'm not as familirar with, and the Jam has been more of a recent thing for me...I've heard the first two albums, and a greatest hits type album. I've heard a little less w/ Stone Roses and Pulp.

Drum and Riley -- I can understand your position on the Jam, there are certainly enough bands that I "respect but don't really like" ... hell, with the exception of "Common People" I think that Pulp probably fall into that category for me.
And I think that the argument for the Jam here becomes even bigger when you look (as Riley mentioned) at Weller's solo career. The man has never made a bad solo record, had big hits and critical success in his forties, and can't hardly buy notice in the US.
Personally, I would've included the Housemartins on this list, but that really is a subjective call.

Never heard the Housemartins, honestly.
Buzzcocks, though, were they that much bigger in the UK than the US? I ask because I really don't know. Time has treated them well Stateside, at least.

I can honestly say I'm wholey unimpressed by Pulp, I don't think they're bad but nothing really grabs me. The Buzzcocks kick ass though...so does Supergrass.

I demand to know the meaning of this Robbie Williams injustice He's an arsehole with no talent, so he gets no votes.

Riley, I will have to respectfully disagree with you on that one.

I voted for him, his songs are better than yours, and he has a great voice. Any questions?

why does he look like a Hobbit?

Because he was born from an Elvin silver womb and just remember that the Hobbits saved the world until George Bush found that ring.

oh, this was the easiest vote this side of LBJ vs. Goldwater!!....the JAM!!...unequivocally............I can't begin to tell you how much I adored them...got into them rather late in the game with a RS glowing review of Sound Affects (1981)...shortly thereafter picked up all their prior albums...I literally hadn't been so galvanized by a band since I picked up London Calling..there was an honesty and ferocity to the music that sure made the upcoming "new romantic" bands look like so much refuse..............
.....as many critics said, the Jam were just "too British" to be claimed by the US...I don't know if that is true or not, but it took "town called malice" to get any substantive US attention..then shortly thereafter they called it quits!!.......
