Only 3 Montrealers I've been listening to recently ... Jorane : Electronica/avant-garde(?) singer/writer cellist ... "The You and the Now"(her last album) features a duet with Daniel Lanois "16MM" is an instrumental only album. Lhasa de Sela : Born in the US but made Montréal her home ... "La Llorona" is sung in Spanish only "The Living Road" is a mix of French, English and Spanish Stéfie Shock mixes Rock-French-Brasilian-Jamaican-African-Disco-Hiphop-Electro-House and Jazz ... on his 2 albums "le décor" and "Presque rien"

Hey, the elusive Rileydog! I was always curious about Junetile. Don’t know if they’re actually signed to Maple but they sell their stuff on the site.
You’ll never guess my vote for coolest band signed to True North Records ("Canada’s Oldest Independent Record Company")...

I'll take a stab and say their name starts with "R", ends with "S" and in the middle is "heostatic".
How'd I do?
Yeah life is crazy. Just moved offices. New, but similar job. Lots of training and shit.
Hoping you and Shane and I can hook up for a Pop Explosion gig or two. Really hoping to see The Arcade Fire and The Organ on the Friday (5th) and The Wrens on the Saturday (6th), but I'm not sure my "social director" can withstand that much "going to hang with my internet buddies" time in one weekend.

We can play it by ear, Riley, but I'd be up for a Pop Explosion show or two. I think Blurton's new band is playing the Pop Explosion, too, isn't he? Though, I think he's playing The Attic. Blurton in that space, after the ear-splitting volume of the Emm Gryner show there last summer, might just about finish me off. Good guess, BTW, on starts with "R", ends with "S" and "heostatic" in the middle. ;D

I saw Blurtonia in Hell. My ears rang for weeks. IT was fucking great.
I think C'Mon are playing at a time that conflicts with at least one of the main shows, but I could be game for anything, bearing in mind I also have a renewed sense of what's healthy for my 32 year old ears.
I think we can work out the finer details as time approaches. Be nice to sit this time. The Cons/Wintersleep show was cool, but standing got a bit old and probably played on my attention a bit.

Rebecca West, man, Rebecca West.
You went to the Hip the other night, didn't you, Riley. Forgot to ask about the concert.

Rebecca West could make that list easily on any day, just not the day I posted it unfortunately.
Hip show was good. No surprises, but completely what you want from a Hip concert. Plaskeet held his own very well on the big stage and received a nice reception from the crowd. I'll see if I can't elaborate a bit more on CanCon proper later on today. Right after I give you that Sunday shopping rebuttal ;D

I had pretty much decided my passion had subsided and my voice would lack credibility so long after the vote. Then Sunday (pretty much every Sunday) roles around and I end up, like thousands of other metro residents, contributing to the already healthy revenue line of Shopper'S Drug Mart, since for all intents and purposes they are now like Wal-Mart except with a license to open on Sundays and sell more than necessities. Some of these SDM stores are bigger than the Metro Centre.

LOL, Riley. Your point re: SDM is true enough, BTW, but what’s a policy without its attendant zone of pragmatic deceit?

So true. My initial resentment, in fairness was probably driven more from a self serving, emotional and personal needs stand point.
At this point it all seems to come back to the general hypocrisy and the illogical bible thumping element. The people have spoken and all that, but why don't the Sunday church people take some of that same anti shopping energy and focus it on the availability of gambling and boozing, which I would think they should take similar issue with under whatever rules they're playing by these days.
Oh right. We can't actually take down a monster like Casino NS, so let's call this shopping thing a victory for moral superiority and put our old school Nova Scotia fucking blinders back on.
