You know, I don’t necessarily assume that the 'bible thumping element' was the decisive factor in the outcome of this vote. Metro Halifax – younger, more mobile, relatively affluent, presumably much less bound by tradition than the rural areas of the province – voted for Sunday shopping by a bare majority (the Metro Yes vote was 51.3%, only about 3200 votes more than the No side). It was expected to go for Sunday shopping much more decisively than that. Several rural areas (with an older, presumably more religious/traditionally inclined population) such as East Hants, Clare and Guysborough actually voted for Sunday shopping.
I know the churches were well organized and passionate about stopping it but I felt just as passionate about it as a non-believer – for different reasons, obviously. I suspect there must have been a significant number of people who opposed it on similar, non-religious grounds.

I'm sick and fucking tired of cardboard covers. They are absolutely useless, and inspire me to go ahead and just download albums because I don't want to deal with that crap.
Sucks, though, because so many good bands are using them. Cardboard covers are part of the reason I haven't really bothered with much Pearl Jam the past few years.

I've never heard of anyone side stepping potentially good music due to shoddy packaging. That's hillarious.

Well, I buy an album because I want, you know, the package and the feel. But yeah, shoddy packaging = I'm stealing your music.
I get pissy every time I have to see my warped and damaged copies of Vitalogy, You Forgot It In People, Funeral, With Teeth, or Mass Romantic.

Hey, I have eight of those discs up top and (knock on wood that it stays this way) the covers and inserts are all in near perfect shape, even with a new dog in the house who seems to like chewing up paper and cardboard as much as he does Milk-Bones!

That's one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen. I'd love a big poster of that on my wall at work.
I hate the cardboard covers too. Not that it's ever stopped me from buying the albums, but still.

No matter how big an annoyance cardboard CD sleeves and 'digipaks' are, though, you gotta admit things could've gone somewhere much, much worse.
