On the very first spin of the new Beck.... ;D Let me know how it is... I loved that Timebomb song which renewed my interest in Beck.

I think it's spectacular and actually quite different from most of the stuff he's done before. The last song on the album (Volcano) is completely different lyrically than anything I've heard him do. I hear Radiohead influences and a continuation of the Sea Change emphasis on serious lyrics in this new album. The only complaint I (and everyone I've talked to who has heard it) have is that is WAY too short and I cannot find the B-sides anywhere yet.

Hipsters in general don't like Beck, by the way. My guess is that they view him simultaneously as not indie enough, too weird, and too mainstream. No it doesn't make sense, but that's the prerogative of the hipster.

There seems to be a lot of poo-pooing of the new Beck, which I can't seem to understand. I think it's a really good record. The first five songs are brilliant I think. I thought it was a cool collaboration between him and Danger Mouse and I think that the 30 minutes of this album blow away the 70 minutes of "The Information".

I dug the new Beck but that was about it, just diggin' it. Tell you what, Danger Mouse has been doing some good stuff lately. He livened up the last Sparklehorse-album too.

"Heal the sick, raise the dead and make those little girls talk out of their head 'cause I'm the one. I'm the one, I'm the one, I'm the one, I'm the one , the one they call the seventh son." Bought it on ebay for like $3.00. Been looking for a good recording of "The Seventh Son" for quite awhile.

Congrats (?) due to me for buying my very first Grateful Deal release today: LIVE/Dead also picked up the cast album to Stew's broadway hit (soon to be a Spike Lee pic I hear):

Speaking of Beck, a trip to the local library yeilded a couple of his releases I don't have, namely, Midnite Vultures and Guero - still have to listen to both properly, but an initial dust over the tracks and they sounded good - not "oh man, this is amazing and timeless" good but kinda grooooooovy fun good...
