yeah, I'm familiar with 95% of Achtung -- never owned it because back then you could pretty much turn on the radio at any time and hear something off it. In fact radio pretty much did in U2 for me once The Joshua Tree hit....too much of a good thing you know. But it IS nice now that time has gone by to revisit those sounds. I spun the entire 2nd disc of Saturday Night Fever while making my breakfast burritos today and BELIEVE ME while disco certainly sux'd in the day, it practically amazed me how absolutely fantastic the playing sounded to me. The side is greatly instrumental jams and damn those players had it goin' on with a mismash of dance/funk/jazz.

I pulled out Achtung Baby the other night, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable listen, although time over playing on radio has faded it a bit - I still remember it as an exciting album when I was fifteen and it had just come out - that thing was just brimming with new ideas for me and it caught my attention and my imagination...

To be honest, other bands and albums did morew for my development as a listening that U2 did with this album, but it definitely took me in some directions i didn't expect myself to go in...

Although it wouldn't rank in my top ten albums of all time, it definitely had a strong effect on my musical preferences...

And they actually bothered to play in Adelaide, unlike most bigger acts of their era ( and still today, most likely)...

Spent 45 minutes walking up & down the aisle of my longtime record/CD buying shop --- even telling the owner to go ahead and step outside for a smoke as I wasn't done looking. Was in one of those nasty moods that I had to buy something but didn't know what. Looked at the 30^th Anv. Edit. of King Crimson's Larks Tongue In Aspic,,,,pondered some live Ozric Tentacles,,,,climbed through the box sets,,,,skipped past some Indie stuff,,,,waded into the Imports,,,,found myself in the Blues where I finally grabbed an artist. Was 1/2 way to the register when another name leaped out of the rack and I pulled back the stacks figuring on seeing just the same old shit but no, there was a New Release that I hadn't a clue about --- 5 bucks cheaper too, so:

About as I expected with a mix of rocked up blues and drawn out ballads but satisfying as I just now come to the end of the first listen. The song "Umbrella Man" is thrown-down killer riffs while the 10:00+ "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" has the lonnnngg breathless solo that Gary can make sound as if he's pulling it off in his sleep it's so effortless. Jawdropping. The ending "Trouble Ain't Far Behind" wafts out on guitar notes that would have Peter Green grinning ear-to-ear -- so spot-on to the old days of Mac that it's scary. OO000ooo,,,gotta hear that one again!

Some of those names brought back memories, Pat. Lime! Your Love is a killer track. Apotheosis! That track was banned because of the heirs of the composer Carl Orff didn't want the masters' O Fortuna gangraped like that- and just before the single had to be removed from the shelves it sold in its thousands! Hmm, plenty of Italo (damn, haven't heard that Taffy-track in 25 years!)...good summer music!
