I read that Anthrax is coming out w/ an Anthology of sorts....considering I have the tapes of many old Anthrax albums starting w/ Fist Full of Metal, this may be a good buy....

I used to really love Pantera, but I think the main reason I stopped liking them is the over-violent jock fans that they seem to attract. I give you a major thumbs up for braving that pit.
I have a couple of new discussion points here: Why are there not more girls in Metal? Is Metal inherently homosexual?
PS.......If Anthrax does an anthology I will be the first in line for that. I like just about everything that they have ever done and their work with both John Bush and Joey Belladonna. One of my top 10 metal bands of all time.

Why are there not more girls in Metal?
It takes a certain type of girl to really appreciate metal. And metal-chicks are hard to come by. But so easy to come onto.
Is Metal inherently homosexual?
This question is inherently dumb. The answer is "No". I say this in all sincerity, because I have yet to find any of my gay friends to be the least bit into metal. Never in life have I encountered a true gay metalhead. Now, the "comedic value" of your question notwithstanding, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and consider whether or not 100% of the male metalhead population might be total closet homosexuals. While there is a good chance this may be the case, I would have to say (in our defense) that we're so god damned scared to come out of that closet, that the whole thing becomes entirely besides the point. I mean, what kinda "gay" would we be if we were so overtly \m/etal, we couldn't even admit to secretly liking Madonna's music? Answer: NO kind of decent fags whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, we've failed utterly in our potential fagdom. Show me a gay metalhead and I'll. . . ask you for his number? ;P

Ehhhhh.......I'm a huge metalhead. I personally have never been exposed to that part of scene until a guy here in in a pretty big band came out of the closet. He said, for him, now mind you he's really into metal, and isn't into the cliches of Madonna or Cher, that metal was like a candy store for him. Tons of young dudes that are all sweaty and in black leather.................eh, it made me think that maybe he had a point that it could be the greatest thing that could have ever happened to the guy. The question is serious. I'm not trying to be funny and I don't think it's inherently dumb. If anything it may prover how inherently homophobic it can be (and no, I know better, I am not calling you a homophobe).

Chicks. Just the very term of "chicks" is just awful. I hate objectification in any form But I've sustained far worse pit injuries from punk shows & rock shows than from any metal gig. I agree that the metal guys tend to be your more sensitive types when it comes to chicks in the pit. There's always a few massive dudes who bust heads for anyone touching a chick. Punk rock dudes are generally little shitheads. The absolute best way to pick up girls at any punk or metal show, though, is to hang out just close enough to the mosh pit to be able to catch any girls whe get knocked in, and act all concerned and protective the rest of the night. That was a high school tactic that NEVER failed. As I got a bit older, though, they sort of caught onto it. Had to be a bit more subtle.

I didn't know you were gay man. Er.... I mean to say, I assume you are since you said "Ehhhh......I'm a huge metalhead". But yeah, I think its true that a large portion of the metalhead scene is inherently homophobic. I know most of the fucks around here are. It's quite pathetic, actually. I really get along with gay guys. Its a wonder I'm not gay myself.

The whole "no chicks in metal" thing is probably for the same reason there's exponentially more male skateboarders and thrillseekers in general; metal isn't emotional in a cerebral sense, really, but its more or less geared to the primal, reptilian part of the brain that demands action. Metal (and punk, to some extent) is adrenaline and testosterone filled; violence and chaos descending. Females often find themselves attracted to that, but usually aren't part of the action themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of closeted gays in metal, and I mean that. The genre pulls a lot of people who are sort of the dregs/outcasts of society, and certainly people with a confused sexuality would fit in that description. And while I was typing this, I uploaded this for ya. Thorn.... rapidshare.de/files/10553762/MOTD_-_Cryfemal_-_With_The_Help_Of_The_Devil_-_08_-_Supremo_Odio.mp3.html(the MOTD label is from when I was doing a daily MP3 at a LJ community, up until I ran out of free time)

Funny, I have never noticed that Metal lacks female fans....especially if you count Europe.
Well I guess compared to other genres this is probably a truth.
It surely wasn't lacking in the 80's though.

No, Thorn, I'm not gay. I sometimes wonder if it would be easier, BUT dicks and harry assholes are just turn me off. Not really my thing. In fact I'm one of those creepy dudes that trolls for fish tacos all of the time.

Why are there not more girls in Metal?
many reasons. 1. its not the most accessible of subcultures. not every town has a scene but the ones that do do not always cater for under-18s (or...maybe in the States its under-21s for the drinking age? Dunno...) its hard to get into a scene when you can't get IN
2. its very macho. from the bands themselves & their iffy subject matter (bitch please, are you singing about D&D?) right down to bouncers & aggro guys who make a big deal about a girl being a girl. though as I said earlier metal guys are some of the nicest in the gig world, its not always comfortable being a girl around guys like that.
3. the look of metal is not the most attractive. ever notice that most metal chicks - besides the ones into cheesy 80s hair metal who look like Duff McKagan with tits (and they're mostly groupies/scenesters anyway) - are either a) fat b)ugly or c) fat and ugly? girls who like dark/heavy music but also want to look pretty become Goth. its the reason I broke up with my metalhead boyfriend & got with a guy who looked like a vampire when I was 15.
4. it can be hard getting into a scene (any scene) when you're a girl because of other girls. theres a real hierarchy with girls in subcultures & because your prey will be boys in that same scene theres also a lot of competition. metal chicks, coz they're usually fat & ugly, fight dirty. I went to a local metal gig wearing a short skirt & a fat ugly metal chick hit me with a beer bottle over the head. i hit her back, harder, but it her attack on me was actually unsolicited. for once in my life I didn't even smartmouth anyone who ended up fighting me.

also, there can be some serious disrespect towards female musicians from metalheads. it seems very hard for a female muso to build up respect in that world for anything other than T&A. you're more accepted as a femme muso in other scenes, probably more the 'punk' scene than most.
because you can't tell a skinny mohawked chick from a skinny mohawked dude, thats why.
