No need to get overdefensive, Amp. Remember, to each their own. I'm 100% certain that this belongs in the "no one gives a fuck" category, but just for the record: luke, Fuzz - The album was recorded live, unless they're lying to me on the liner notes ("recorded at the Shibuya Club Quattro and Shimokitazawa Club Que"). I checked the liner notes again, and it was "Shimokitazawa Club 251" not Que (there's about a dozen clubs within that 500-meter radius of Shimokitazawa, so sue me). I've never been there, but I doubt that it's any larger than the Que. Yeah, big deal, I know...

The Mercury Prize:
Who I want to win? Richard Hawley
Who will probably win? Hot Chip or the Guillemots
Who doesn't even deserve to be nominated? Thom Yorke, Muse, and Arctic Monkeys While I like all three of those records, I'd hardly give them Mercury Prize standings.

Well it looks like the Arctic Monkeys won it.
This further supports my theory that whoever picks these things are shit and I have better taste than them.

Whoever picks them anyway? Awards are stupid. With the exception of the Rileydog Awards.

I was hoping Scritti Politti would win. Fuck, I love that album.

I was happy to see such a comeback for Scritti myself. I think it was fantastic that they were nominated more than anything.

Thorn, I couldn't find the Mars Volta thread, but dude, Pitchfork gave those guys a terrible review again and man, it's getting on my nerves. I like reading that page for the news updates, but jeez, those guys are no fun snobs.

Pitchfork tore apart the last Mars Volta album too. When they decide they don't like a band, there's no redemption. It's pretty clear that they're still bitter that At the Drive In broke up, and they'll never give the Mars Volta a fair shake.
Screw the reviews though, I'm picking it up on my way home from work today.

What I've heard I don't like very much, though I haven't listened to the whole thing.

Are you a fan of the previous two?

Yes, I like them both but I think Frances kind of meanders alittle too much and that's pretty much the same complaint about the new stuff I've heard, it just doesn't really seem to go anywhere.

I friend of mine just gave me a burnt copy, I'll put it on and let you know where I stand on the other side.

I'll take their meandering over hipster BS bands like Tapes N Tapes.

I guess my problem is for all thier going on and on about sounding different from everything else they end up sounding exactly the same as they did last time I heard them. There's too much that just feels like I've heard it before. It's just disappointing from a band that was so new and refreshing once upon a time to just keep doing the same ole schtick. I feel almost excatly the same as when I heard the new Tool...it's not so much that it's bad it's just disappointing.
