I can understand that, but still, I'll take a disappointing MV release over much that is out there.

I'm about half way through.
So far it's good, but I agree with ded that it's pretty much a rehash of what they've done before. I really like the fourth and fifth songs at least. On the sixth right now. Definately not as strong as FTM but I'm going to be giving this a lot of listens, I think.

The second half of this album is better than the first.

I think the problem is that the Mars Volta is more about flow than about songs....sort of in the way that Jethro Tull went with Passion Play, that's the way I saw Francis The Mute.
Great fucking disc.
And I've had that Vomitorium/Comatorium (WeverTF it's called) disc for a couple of weeks and still haven't listened to it.
Se what a two-year old in the house and then buying a new house will do to ya?
Oh! And selling the old one... the house that is.

New album, Boys and Girls in America, by The Hold Steady touches down on Oct. 3 here in the states. I am friggin jazzed, to say the least.

Wolf Eyes gets album of the year for me. Anyone heard that new Sparklehorse? Yes! Very fresh album and album of the month for me. The slow stuff tends to be a bit too drudgy but the first four tracks are amongst the best Linkous has ever done. Danger Mouse doesn't do his Gnarls-trickery too much on it, just adds enough to keep Mark awake.

I've heard that they are doing a full on collaberation which I have to say gave heavy interest for me. I'm a huge fan of both so I bet that's going to be a pretty record.

The Wolf Eyes album is great...don't know if it's the best album of the year, but it's up there.
I am enjoying the new Lemonheads album right now, and I've spun the new Mars Volta a couple of times. I can't get into it like I could get into their previous two full lengths. I am starting to feel a bit iffy about these guys...

Oh, and the Yo La Tengo project is pretty fantastic.

Is the new Lemonheads worth picking up at all? I've been an off and on fan of Dando for a while and I'm just curious as to what he is up to these days. I have had a hard time finding a sample of the record online.

Should I be ashamed for liking the new Killers?

I don't know...the singles off the first album were most excellent, although the rest of the album sucked. I haven't heard anything off the new one. I would err on the side of shame.
