It's never too early to have these types of discussions.

So far for me, the best album is Pimpoint by Soil & "Pimp" Sessions. It's not a surefire thing though, whereas when I heard the Natsumen in January last year, I was absolutely positive that it won't be topped. So there's a decent chance that some album could overtake Pimpoint later in the year, but good god that record is really killing me right now.

So far, I'm really digging Deerhunter's "Cryptograms". That is going to be high on my list as well as the new LCD Soundsystem.

Deerhunter and Deerhoof should engage in an arm wrestling match so that the loser has to change their band name. It's confusing!

So far, the ones I can think of right now liking a lot are Grinderman and the new NIN. But I think the best is yet to come... New releases by ....
Chris Cornell Velvet Revolver Crowded House Bjork Prince Interpol Tori Amos Smashing Pumpkins
There are more I'm looking forward to, I just can't think of them right now. Crowded House is probably the only one of the bunch I'm pretty sure won't suck. The rest could go either way.

I worshipped the Smashing Pumpkins when I was a teenager, so I'm pretty terrified that they will be releasing a new album. I worshipped NIN too, but I have no interest whatsoever in checking the new album out.
I guess the release I'm most pumped up about is the new Clammbon.

Crowded House releasing a new album??!! How is that possible when one third of them is no more??!! Is it a live album or a compilation, or a Neil Finn solo recording?!
And I didn't know the Pumpkins were back together - hell, thats AWESOME! I'll be first in line to get any new material they might have to offer!

Well I stand corrected it seems! They have indeed made plans for a new album and will reform as Crowded House, sans Paul Hester of course - hope the new stuff will be as good as their classic stuff! Looking forward to hearing it!

year zero is decent, at least so far. definitely not reznor's best work though.
im quite excited for qotsa's era vulgaris however.
im curious to hear hang love by burning brides...but i dont think itll be anywhere near the best album.
we must obey by fu manchu was a welcome return to form.
and if scott lucas manages to pull it together and find a label, new local h is always promising to me. they kicked ass tonight by the way.......now if i could just shake the tinnitus.......

Porcupine Tree, The Twilight Sad, the Besnard Lakes, Jesu, the Church, Panda Bear and My Friend The Chocolate Cake are so far the albums gaining the most airplay here.

Ooh, I remember My Friend The Chocolate Cake from the Australian mix that you sent me, maarts, and it was pretty good iirc. Are their songs all instrumentals?

Actually the majority of the songs are sung by David Bridie who also has been in a band named Not Drowning Waving and released two solo-albums. The Cake is more of an electric-acoustic outfit with a small string section (cello, violin) and veers in between stately and upbeat pop, mournful ballads and the odd (Hungarian-tinged for violinist Hope Csutoris) instrumental. Very good band!
