One of the all-time most stupid fucking commercials of I have ever seen is currently airing. It's the one where all the formerly impotent middle aged guys are sitting around jamming out some tunes and they sing "Viva Las Vegas" but they change it to "Viva Viagra". Oh, God, how I'd like to show up at their little hootenanny and shove their instruments up their asses.
Lots of stupid commercials these days...and I really hate it when they butcher classic rock songs with shitty editing...hell, even the fact that they use them gets under my skin. It's like, "well, the target demographic have probably never heard these songs and we're doing the old foagies a favor filling the gaps in their memories..." And the only thing that irks me more than the use of the classic rock song in an ad is when the song and the product have little or nothing in common. For instance, the makers of Tide laundry soap and Bounce dryer sheets have a new scent on the market now and the song they're using is Supertramp's "Give a Little Bit". Now what the fuck do they have in common? Your guess is as good as mine.
And that one that was showing not too long ago of an automobile company using "Start" by the Jam...it's basically the opening riffs playing beneath the announcer, but he takes a short pause just long enough for Weller to sing the line "What you give is what you get"...then the announcer returns with his pitch. Isn't that the dumbest thing?

Commercials suck, period. They all piss me off. Unless they are about Pac Man Cereal or Hamms beer--forget em. I dont need tampons (contrary to popular belief) and Im sure the people who do know whats out there. Alltell, Nextel, etc. who gives a *&^(*^(*%^ *&^8! really witty, man. Cant take it. (I really do wish I had a career in advertising so its all sour grapes)
Like I said, the only reason that TV shows exist is for the advertising. Visual Entertainment is one big corporate logo. Yeah, I need a hi-def tv. Just so I can see the product placement a lttle better. Just so I can figure out how to worship celebrities better. Just so I can see all the death mayhem and sadness on the news better.

Just so I can see all the death mayhem and sadness on the news better. I dont need tampons (contrary to popular belief) and Im sure the people who do know whats out there. Ha ha! That's funny! It's kind of the same way with Viagra, if you think about it. It's not as if it's a low-profile medication. It's become a part of the popular culture, with references to it in television shows, movies, jokes about it (and/or those who use it) on all the late night talk shows...Can someone tell me why the manufacturers feel the need to advertise at all? Especially with an ad that takes "cheezy" to a new level? Here's another one I hate that uses a classic rock song. I think it's for Chevrolet. It starts out with the familiar opening strains of Genesis' "Turn It On Again" with it's initial build-up. Great song. One of the best part is when said introduction is clipped by two rapid syncopated notes...if you know the song you know exactly what I'm referring to. It's a recurring part of the song, and I'd even go so far as to say that it is one of the things that make it interesting. So the build-up begins...and just when the "BA DA" is supposed to come in...some fool has edited it out and jumped to the instrumental chorus. Towards the end, if you listen real close, you can hear Phil sing "turn it on..." but that's IT. ooooh, I hate commercials. I do think, however, that I'll be getting a big screen HDTV within the next 30 days. I imagine I'll be watching a lot of baseball on it, and I'm mainly getting it to watch DVDs on. Plus, as I slowly evolve into a dirty old man, I have become rather fond of "Hannah Montana". That Miley Cyrus makes me wish I was a teenager again. Here are some TV shows that I actually enjoy (most of which are in syndication, if that tells you something about my opinion regarding current television) : The Jamie Kennedy Experiment Cops Star Trek Star Trek: The Next Generation Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Star Trek: Voyager M*A*S*H NYPD Blue Stargare SG1 Maximum Exposure Judge Mathis Judge Joe Brown CMT Top Twenty Video Countdown Cheaters The Jerry Springer Show Tucker Carlson Hannity & Colmes America's Funniest Home Videos and of course... Hannah Montana (leer leer) Not a single network prime time show in the list. I am going to check out a new one, "Pushing Daisies" when it starts up. Sounds like an interesting premise. I used to like Reno 911 but the movie sucked so bad that now I don't enjoy it anymore...don't know why that is. No, I am not a Trekkie. I'm just a closet nerd. If Hercules and Xena were still playing in this market I'd probably be keeping up with them.

I love all the Star Trek series, except I never got into the one with the lady captain - what was it? But I think only the original series bears up under multiple, major multiple viewings. Like the Andy Griffith Show. Only for quite different reasons.
A couple of shows I like a lot right now are "Deadliest Catch" and "Ice Road Truckers" on Discovery and History channels. There are a few things to learn from those shows, too.

You watch Hannah Montana JAC? Uh...I told you I was turning into a dirty old man, heh heh. Believe it or not, if I'm channel surfing and there's nothing else on I'll check me out some Hannah. I don't make plans to watch it, though, it's not a daily addiction (if I were 14 years old it would be). But yeah, it's kind of cute and you just can't go wrong with a TV show with Billy Ray Cyrus in it. Strat...the one with the female captain is Voyager. I like it well enough. I like the Doctor character. I'm not too crazy about Captain Janeway (I might like her better, but I don't like the way she's played by whoever it is that plays her). The stories are good, that's the main thing. In fact, that's the reason I watch all the Star Treks, the writing and the story lines are so good. And some memorable characters as well, but mainly the stories.

While we're on the subject of TV shows (as opposed to commercials)... WHAT A BLAST FROM THE PAST!!! THE BUGALOOSI would not be at all surprised if I'm the only one here old enough to remember this goofy kids show. In fact, I was so young when it aired that I didn't think it was goofy. Can you imagine that?

Oh, Jac - I must be a little older than you, because I do vaguely remember the Bugaloos, but I did think they were incredibly goofy. Even lamer than H.R. Puffinstuff with Jimmy and his goofy talking flute.
I was confusing Voyager with Enterprise. I guess I was tired. Anyhow, I did like Enterprise, even though it was weak most of the time. T'Pol was hot, though.
