I wrote down the best eight for each decade, 60s and up, and then I lost the frickin' list. I'm forgetting somebody here because I remember slashing The Strokes off the list. I'm sure somebody will point out who it is. It's not Interpol or Franz Ferdinand. Dammit, I can't think of who it is. Oh well, it doesn't matter too terribly much because Radiohead should win by a landslide. Not will, but should.

I wouldn't vote for any of those bands. If Sysytem of a Down or Mars Volta was on that list i'd vote for them

I voted for Muse, but Broken Social Scene is the best band from the 00's.

I voted for The White Stripes. They've put out 2 major records in this decade and Radiohead's influence is still much rooted in the previous decade.

I voted for Wilco but I don't really feel like any of those will really considered the best band of this decade when it's all said and done... The White Stripes are really good but maybe the overrated band of the deacde...

The White Stripes are indeed overrated. I suppose they are unique in a way, but still overrated. Can't say I'm crazy about that latest album of theirs. Too piano based for my liking.
RS seems to love them too. I suppose they are to Rollingstone what Franz are to NME. It seems no matter what they put out is received with glowing reviews. IMHO, they'll [both] be forgotten before the decade is out. Maybe sooner. "Seven Nation Army" is still without a doubt the best single of the past 5 years or so, so that's why I voted for the Stripes, despite not liking them that much anymore.
Coldplay have sunk into MOR mode way too soon in their career {although their first CD has their best songs, and their second was their best over all}, U2 have become mediocre, Radiohead released their finest work in the 90's, Muse bore me, and I could care less about Wilco and The Shins, so White Stripes get my vote by default for 1 spectacular single from a pretty good album.

The White Stripes are, if anything, the most misunderstood band of the era, and certainly not overrated. They got lumped into the garage rock wave a couple years back, and some people just can't really see them in any other light, but they have something completely different going on than any of hte o ther bands that they're usually grouped with. Jack White is a unique songwriting and guitar talent, and I think he's one of the few true visionaries of his generation of music. And I'm 100% completely serious about all of this.

yeah, i recall strenuously arguing this on a post somewhere around here, which i've forgotten where... but Jack White is indeed one of the few true visionaries, and furthermore, Kool's post was one of the more irrational posts i've seen an earnest poster make in recent times. Fo'reals, yo, dam!

Radiohead hit their peak in the 90s. Coldplay is fucking garbage, the only thing that seperates them from Creed or Nickelback is that they rip old Radiohead instead of old Pearl Jam. U2 is an 80s band. Wilco is up there, but I can't consider them wholly of this decade. Muse is great, and prolly in the top ten or so.
Franz Ferdinand is the best band of this decade. Bar fucking none. Followed by Broken Social Scene, and then the Mars Volta.
And then comes The Strokes, who I voted for.

And Jack White is great, he just needs a new band. Maybe that one album coming out will be pretty good.

I voted for The Shins just so they'll get some love. I've been listening to their two albums back to back all weekend.

I think especially if you look at the newest record one can see just how smart a songwriter Jack White really can be and how varied his musical whims can go, even within his self-imposed restrictions.
