I just realized that I chose both the opening track and the closing track off Who's Next and Highway 61 Revisited for this list. That's quite an accomplishment for those albums!! Damn.
Also I can't believe I put anything by Queen on either one of my lists, but I really do think that The Show Must Go On is an incredibly powerful song, a perfect closer, and deeply poignant when you consider the circumstances under which Freddie Mercury was singing it.
Also I cannot disconnect this song from a particular moment in my life - way back in high school, when I was 15, we learned that one of my classmates committed suicide. There was a memorial service for him, at which they played this song, and it was just so powerful in that context. Whenever I hear it, I very vividly remember that moment, and trying to come to grips with something as scary and sad as suicide.

I would also just like to say that I hadn't seen Rocky's list before I wrote mine. Pleased to see a few repeat votes for Torn Curtain, Furance Room Lullaby, The World's a Mess It's in my Kiss, and Here Comes a Regular. However now I regret not voting for All Apologies; that song really is the epitome of a great closer. So appropriate as a final song on an album.
Cheers, M

Also, I wasn't sure what the actual closers were on EC's early albums because there are so many different versions.

"Here Comes the Flood" is great but I actually prefer the version on Robert Fripp's Exposure album to the original on PG1. "Biko" though is a definite for me also.

I used to have this rare 12" record of Here Comes The Flood sung in German by peter gabriel, accompanied only by him on piano. Man I wish I still had that record...

Great list, weeping. This is harder than I'd thought it would be ... it's actually harder for me to choose closers than it was for openers. Once I get my list done, I'll put up a few thoughts on other's entries ... in the mean time, feel free to go after each other without me.
